A medieval fortress strung along a limestone bluff above Klis, fifteen minutes from Split, with two millennia of history — Illyrian, Roman, Croatian royal, Ottoman and Venetian — visible in its walls. Inside there is a small museum of swords and costumes, but most visitors come for the walk along the ramparts and the panoramic view over Split and the islands. Game of Thrones fans will recognize it as Meereen. The €12 ticket also covers the nearby Olive Museum; wear sturdy shoes and allow 1.5–2 hours.
