Rovinj has plenty of restaurants with a view, but Monte is the one that put Croatian fine dining on the map — the country’s first Michelin star, earned in 2017 and held every year since. The Đekić family has been cooking in this house since 1985; chef Danijel Đekić was literally born here, and the place runs on family pride rather than white-tablecloth stiffness.
The move is one of the three tasting menus, each built around a colour — Red for lobster, Green for vegetables, Blue for fish and seafood — with the 24-hour suckling pig as the signature worth crossing Istria for. His wife, sommelier Tjitske Đekić-Brusse, keeps the wine list exclusively Croatian, and she’ll happily talk you into a bottle you’ve never heard of. Dinner only: this is your evening plan, not your lunch.
